It cost money to race and keep these cars going throughout the season and drivers need as much as I can write off for these expenses and Ruth was someone who was able to help the drivers out. She started attending races at Antioch in 1974 and started sponsoring drivers in 1976 like Jerry Garner, Willie Maya, Debbie Clemens, and Jimmy Ford and many, many others along the way until her retirement a few years ago. Ruth would attend the races every week rooting for her favorite drivers until here passing in 2022.Along with Ruth was her husband Charles, who also started attending the races in the early 70s, Charles discovered that he lived down the street from JD Willis' service station. They also lived on that same street together and knew each other from school. He started helping JD with his racecar and was very instrumental in the early success of JD Willis' career and continued to help him out until JD stop racing. Charles would also be helpful with many of the cars that were around them, helping out in any way he could and became great friends with a lot of the drivers throughout the years.
