Bob Meeker
We induct Stock Car racer Bob Meeker into the Hall of Fame. Bob didn't have a long career before he lost his battle with cancer, but he made a major impact. He hit the scene in the 1970s and made his first appearance in the top 10 in 1974. Two years later, he had a breakout season as he ended up third in the standings.
After finishing 5th in 1977, Bob outran Jim Tryon and Danny Jones to win the 1978 Stock Car championship. He also picked up three Main Event wins in his career. The division had just a brief season in 1979 and was absent from the line at the 1980. It was during that time when Bob lost his battle with cancer.
It was decided to honor his memory by running the 100 lap Bob Meeker classic in 1981, won by Hall Of Famer Bruce Curl. This race was a part of the schedule for most of the 1980s and the banner race each year. Bob may not have had a long career, but he had a big impact among his fellow racers and fans.
